Day 16 Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 16 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

Here I am at Day 16 of praying for blessing. I want to be blessed by God. I feel I am blessed but I sense there is more.

Today I was dry and needed the support of others to hold me up. I didn’t think I had anything to offer others in my life.

I know the cross has blood and splinters on it. In order to become more like Jesus, I have to embrace that cross. Do I have what it takes to carry the cross?

Lord, bless me so that I bring glory to your name. I don’t like pain or discomfort. Thank you for carrying the cross for me. Give me the courage to believe in the power of the cross.

Day 14 Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 14 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

It has been a busy week. One of my colleagues is going through a crisis in her family. The stress of her absence as well as the empathy stress is felt throughout the school building.

My mom injured her back. Each of her children deal with the reality in their own way. Comfortable relationships become stretched and strained relationships beg for forgiveness and grace.

My college daughter carries her stress of assignment deadlines. Everyone in the house feels her pain. Even the housetrained dogs, return to their puppy ways.

My other daughter carries the stress of high school and working in the evenings. She has a nagging cough that won’t go away.

Reality of this journey can become overwhelming very quickly.

Romans 8:26 And in the same way—by our faith-the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don’t even know what we should pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words.

When I don’t know the right words to pray, I am blessed to know that Christ’s Spirit which dwells in me intercedes on my behalf.

God blesses me so that I can take care of my body, His temple,so the Spirit can live in me and change ordinary into extraordinary.

Day 13 Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life.

Day 13 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

I am still not rich, but I did receive some back pay. It was a busy day at work, ending with sitting in on some interviews of a term teacher.

When I got home, my daughter’s friend was cleaning our eaves and fixing the burned out light in the house. We are blessed by others taking care of our petty needs.

We enjoyed a quiet evening together. We are blessed beyond words.

Day 12 Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 12 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

I found journal of our trip to the West coast ten years ago. It is amazing to see how God weaves threads of our lives together so whatever is happening in our lives for God’s purpose had it’s start many years ago. I met a friend in university many, many years ago. When my girls are young teens, we go to the West coast to visit her and her family.

During our travels, we stop to visit other friends along the way. We visit the West Edmonton mall and stop at Drumheller to experience the amusements and tourist attractions. We travel on the Rocky Mountaineer. We learn together as tourists.

We bond as a family. Sometimes through conflict. Sometimes through common interests and enjoyment.Sometimes by watching the hand of God protect our family and provide our needs. Like when the check engine light comes on while driving in the hills of Alberta. Like when I haven’t booked a hotel and all the rooms are full for that night. Like when my daughter cuts her finger with a carving knife.

Our experiences create in the girls a love for travel. They are confident in their skills to navigate Vancouver’s transit system.

They now have the travelling bug and aren’t satisfied unless they are planning a trip. The thread goes on. Sometimes splitting in different directions but always tying the whole picture together.

It could be coincidence, but I know my inadequacies and weakness. I know it is God’s hand blessing me.

If you are encouraged by anything you read, please share it with others who need to hear of a greater purpose for their lives.

Day 10 Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 10 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

“He has reading disability. He will never learn to read.”

As a reading specialist, I hear these words all the time. I have worked with many children tested and decreed non readers or poor readers for life. What those tests don’t recognize is the boy or girl behind the tests who is hurting because what comes naturally for other children is hard for them. They decide that they are less than. They are not as valuable as the other children.

It hurts me that a set of tests can determine a child’s future. I serve the God of impossibilities.

Antoine transferred in to our school this year. He is seven years old and has a file as thick as a novel. Bottomline, he is reading disabled. I have been working with him for six days. I pray the prayer of Jabez for him.

Lord, bless Antoine and help him learn to read. Today he read a simple book, Baby Lamb’s First Drink, with a little support. After he is finished, he sits up tall and says “I am coming back tomorrow. I want to read more books.” It’s a good thing he never read his file. He doesn’t know he will never learn to read, so he picks up a book and reads it. The tests do not define him.

Today I reflect on my file. All the lies I believed about myself.

Today, I accept God blessing.

Today,I believe the God of impossibilities can accomplish in my life His purposes because I am depending on Him. The tests do not define me.

Day 6 – Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 6 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

It was a fairly uneventful day. My eyes are almost better. I worked on the household budget and did some rearranging in the basement. Both girls were home for supper and we spent some family time carving a jack-o-lantern.

I connected with a few special people through text. A very ordinary day at home. And best of all I got to miss out on the chaos of Halloween at school.

I thought after six days of praying for blessing this would get easier. But asking for God to bless me still seems unnatural and I am still not sure what I am looking for. I do, however, feel a shift in my heart towards those I would have previously judged.

These words struck a chord in my heart this week. True compassion demands action. Am I ready to pay the price for caring?

Day 5 Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 5 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

Well, I’m not drowning in money yet. In fact, I received an unexpected bill. I had a little more sleep than usual to rest my eyes. Then I got busy and cleaned my closet. Now I have two big bags of clothes to share with others and mornings will go smoother because I know where my clothes are.My eyes are getting better although still quite red around the edges.

My daughter came home and can now move her hand. Even more amazing she reported that she is enjoying her grade twelve year. She hasn’t said school and like in the same sentence since Kindergarten. She is making new friends and appears to be happy. Also, she has secured a job for after graduation. She will continue as a swimming instructor at the local pool hanging out all day with the friends she has made there.

When she came home she turned on the laptop because she didn’t know it had froze on me and it worked. Wonderful!

My college daughter came home early enough to eat supper together. She is making a few friends at college as well. She sat at the table and did her assignment. I love to watch her work. It gives me a glimpse of how creative God is.

I mopped up the water from the leaking dishwasher and now have to go unplug the bathroom sink. No we are not millionaires, but we are wonderfully blessed serving an extraordinary God on an ordinary day.

Are you experiencing the riches of God? Why not leave a comment?

Day 4 – Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 4 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

My eye was still red when I woke up. I’m beginning to get a little concerned, but I have had trouble with my eyes all my life so this isn’t unusual. The kids are having great fun having a zombie for a teacher. By noon I have to take my contacts out because now both eyes are red. I can’t see very well with my glasses but I have no choice but to wear them. Now I can’t drive home so my daughter has to come and drive the car home. As I do my usual walk, I pray fervently that God will use this set back to show His power. I go home and put cold teabags on my eyes to sooth them. I know God will heal me.

When I look in the mirror 30 minutes later, both eyes are completely red. There is no white showing. I look like quite freaky. When my daughter comes home from work, she has an injured her hand. So off to the emergency room we go. After two hours of sitting in the waiting room visiting with a former grade 2 student and her daughter. Does that make me a grandteacher? Anyways final diagnosis, my daughter has a badly sprained wrist and I have a bacterial infection in my eyes. I get a doctor’s note to stay away from work for two days. In 32 years of teaching, I have left work to take care of the girls but have only taken a handful of days for me. I don’t even know how to fill out the sick day form properly. So I get to miss the day of the year I hate the most – Halloween at school.

Now my laptop has decided it doesn’t want to be a part of my day. It is completely frozen.

Is this what Jabez was praying for when he asked God to bless him and keep him from all evil and disaster? I thought I was praying for comfort. What is your experience praying the prayer of Jabez after 4 days? Leave your comments and share your experiences.

Day 3 – Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 3- I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

To be honest, I thought today God would bless me financially. It was an ordinary day. After having a headache all day yesterday, I woke up with a red eye. My students said I looked like I had zombie eyes. I told them I was getting ready for Halloween. They thought I was really cool.

I looked forward to getting the mail, because I was so sure when I prayed “God would you wonderfully bless me”, He would send me a big cheque. But there was no big cheque in the mail. I did, however, pay all my monthly bills.

I went to a financial education course in the evening. The knowledge I received will help me become a better steward of what God has given me.

When I got home, I spent some time just chilling’ with my two daughters. Life has been very busy this fall so we don’t get a lot of time to just enjoy each other. I would say I am wonderfully blessed but I feel God wants to show Himself in an even more powerful way.

How was your day? Have you joined me in praying this powerful prayer? Leave a comment below.

Day 2 – Prayer of Jabez

Want a bigger vision for your life

Day 2- I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)

I woke up with a small headache. But I thought as I got moving it would disappear. However, that little headache hung on all day. I eventually took a pain killer and then I was so tired I almost fell asleep in my staff meeting. I finally got home at the end of the day and had a little rest. Then it was time to take care of my household. I went grocery shopping, ate some supper and taxied the girls home. While I ate my supper I listened to a message on the power of Jesus. He doesn’t want to make me a better me. He wants me to become like Him.

I had to admit I was disappointed in how my day turned out. I thought if I prayed for blessing. I would have a fabulous day. It was very ordinary and I couldn’t keep ahead of my headache.

Just before I went to sleep, I listened to a message about the Atheist Christian. That really struck a chord in my heart. I want to be like Jesus in my heart, but I am really willing to live in His power? It costs Jesus His life. Do I really want that radical of a christianity? I am blessed by the challenges of great people who are willing to speak the truth.

How was your first day of blessing? If you haven’t started the challenge yet, start today. Invite a friend. I know God is going to lead us into His purpose. Have a blessed day. Feel free to leave a comment.
