Day 10 I prayed the prayer 1 Chronicles 4:10“ Oh that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work, please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all evil and disaster!” And God granted him his request. (That is the wording from the Life Application Bible)
“He has reading disability. He will never learn to read.”
As a reading specialist, I hear these words all the time. I have worked with many children tested and decreed non readers or poor readers for life. What those tests don’t recognize is the boy or girl behind the tests who is hurting because what comes naturally for other children is hard for them. They decide that they are less than. They are not as valuable as the other children.
It hurts me that a set of tests can determine a child’s future. I serve the God of impossibilities.
Antoine transferred in to our school this year. He is seven years old and has a file as thick as a novel. Bottomline, he is reading disabled. I have been working with him for six days. I pray the prayer of Jabez for him.
Lord, bless Antoine and help him learn to read. Today he read a simple book, Baby Lamb’s First Drink, with a little support. After he is finished, he sits up tall and says “I am coming back tomorrow. I want to read more books.” It’s a good thing he never read his file. He doesn’t know he will never learn to read, so he picks up a book and reads it. The tests do not define him.
Today I reflect on my file. All the lies I believed about myself.
Today, I accept God blessing.
Today,I believe the God of impossibilities can accomplish in my life His purposes because I am depending on Him. The tests do not define me.
